About the Perth South West Metropolitan Alliance

The Perth South West Metropolitan Alliance (the Alliance) is a long-standing grouping of six local governments in Perth’s South West region.

Since 1983, the local councils of Fremantle, East Fremantle, Melville, Cockburn, Kwinana, and Rockingham have collaborated on projects impacting their combined communities.

The region represents nearly half a million residents and hosts some of the most significant infrastructure in Western Australia, including:

  • Major shopping destinations in Booragoon, Fremantle, Cockburn, and Rockingham
  • Significant defence infrastructure, including HMAS Stirling, Leeuwin Barracks, and the Australian Marine Complex
  • The state’s premier industrial estates: Kwinana Industrial Area, Rockingham Industrial Zone, and Latitude 32
  • Western Australia’s Container Port in Fremantle and the Kwinana Bulk Terminal and Jetty
  • A range of hospitals, two universities, and leading TAFE institutions

With these assets at our doorstep, the region is set to continue spearheading Western Australia’s economic growth over the coming decades.

ROLE OF THE PERTH SOUTH WEST METROPOLITAN ALLIANCE

The Perth South West Metropolitan Alliance is a longstanding grouping of six local governments in south-west metropolitan Perth. The purpose of the Alliance is to provide a forum and a structure for member councils to unite and collaborate for the benefit of the broader Region. By presenting a united, strategic and long term regional perspective, we aim to deliver better funding, policy, sustainability and collaborative outcomes for the Region.

The Alliance seeks to position local government as a leader and facilitator in the future development and decision-making processes that impact the Region, giving it a greater influence in determining positive outcomes for the Region and the community it serves.

REGIONAL CONTEXT

The Alliance undertakes an external advocacy role involving regional stakeholders such as state and federal government agencies and Members of Parliament (MPs), private sector organisations, business associations and industry groups. Our member councils are:

  • City of Fremantle
  • City of Kwinana
  • City of Melville
  • City of Rockingham
